Unpacking
05.14.09 (9:59 pm) [edit]I tend to focus attention on preparing for a move with little though for life after moving. This coming from someone who still has moving boxes to unpack 2 months after my move! Today, I’m coming up with a plan to finally get those boxes unpacked.
The way I see it, I have various options. Since it’s quite clear that I have not found an immediate need for the contents of those moving boxes in 2 months, I could have Dallas Movers pick them up put them in secure storage. That would be the easy way out!
Because most of these boxes contain décor and my walls are blank, it looks like I’ll need another plan.
First, I’ll move each labeled moving box into the room its contents belongs to. Then, I’ll designate time, say 30 minutes when I get home from work to unpack at least 1 box per day. And unpack should mean empty the moving box, and no just put the contents on the floor.
I’ve got a plan now!
Perfect Plans for a Great Move
05.12.09 (11:21 pm) [edit]When you’re focusing on a move to Dallas, it’s easy to forget other things that are not directly related to planning, packing and moving. Finding a healthy balance between managing your move and maintaining your life can be difficult, but it’s nothing a little extra planning can’t handle!
Try to plan your move as far in advance as possible. Then, set aside a certain amount of time each day to dedicate to your move in Dallas. It can be one hour or even half a day depending on how soon your move will be. Manage the priorities of your day first to make sure that moving doesn’t monopolize your family’s time.
Many times, running errands that you would normally do can help with your move. If you’re moving long distance or planning on making multiple trips with your car, have your vehicle serviced before moving day. Pick up an extra roll of tape or packing paper while at the store. Visit physician offices, pharmacies and daycares with your new contact information on hand.
Planning for a smooth move will help prevent kinks before and during moving day.
More Moving Preparations
05.07.09 (8:00 pm) [edit]Summer is coming up soon, which means your summer move may be just a few weeks away. This blog is full of tips on how to begin preparations for your move to Dallas. Here are a few more suggestions for steps to take with four more weeks to go until moving day.
Get the family together to create a floor plan showing the location of each piece of furniture in your new home. Make copies of the floor plan to give to your Dallas movers on moving day. Furniture can also be color-coded by room, a trick that will increase the efficiency of your move and save you time, energy and lots of heavy lifting.
If you live in a high rise or multi unit complex, its time to make some reservations. See about reserving a freight elevator for your personal use during your move. Some complexes also allow access to loading docks, which can cut the duration of your move and reduce the risk of damages.
There are more moving day tips ahead. Stay tuned!
Diversity in a Dallas Moving Company
05.04.09 (10:57 pm) [edit]The DFW area is a very diverse place. Dallas gets its charm and character from the broad range of cultures that enjoy living in North Texas. Sadly, some businesses find it difficult to draw the line between selective hiring and respecting diversity.
Everyone at All My Sons adds their own personality, culture and talents to our moving family. Our local movers and long distance movers interact with a diverse community as well, which is why so many people find All My Sons a reliable Dallas moving company that really understands their needs.
My coworkers and I establish relationships with so many of our customers. Moving is an intimate, personal experience, and we find that our diverse staff and movers truly understand the various needs of our diverse customers.
Safe Moving Tips
05.01.09 (5:41 pm) [edit]As moving season gears up, you may come to the conclusion that moving yourself is the route to take. I understand that professional moving services are sometimes out of reach for one reason or another. My coworkers and I at All My Sons still want you to have a safe, happy move. Here are some suggestions to keep your mind and body strong and safe during your move in Dallas. These ideas come straight from our professional movers, and their experience speaks for itself!
1. Stretch! Though it may bring back memories of your favorite gym teacher, performing a few stretches before and after moving heavy items can prevent injuries. Focus on stretching legs, shoulders, arms and your back so you can safely lift heavy boxes and furniture.
2. Stay hydrated! Nothing will zap your energy faster than dehydration. Prepare for your move to Dallas by stocking up on bottled water and keeping a bottle or two nearby at all times. Be sure to drink water before you begin moving.
3. Take frequent breaks. As you near the end of your move, signs of fatigue may begin to show. Ignoring your need to rest can be dangerous to your body and your belongings. A tired mover is more likely to make mistakes like mishandling boxes or tripping over obstacles. Be sure to start off with a good night’s rest, then take breaks throughout the day to rest your body, eat and rehydrate.
Feel free to call our office if you need any advice or assistance during your move. Have a happy and safe move!
All My Sons Teams with the Build-A-Bear Workshop
04.28.09 (10:54 pm) [edit]While I love to volunteer, sometimes waking up early on a Saturday to pick up trash in parks is not appealing. If you are looking for a volunteer project with a little bit of fun, look no further than your local Build-A-Bear Workshop.
Build-A-Bear Workshop, a national retailer of build-your-own, personalized stuffed toys, founded Stuffed for Hugs over eight years ago. Stuffed for Hugs is a charitable program that brings toys made by volunteers to children in hospitals, disaster areas, and other locations. The program runs once a year, and that’s where you come in!
You can visit a Build-A-Bear Workshop near you to create a stuffed toy to donate absolutely free. The donated toys are then moved and distributed to local charities and children, and that’s where All My Sons Moving and Storage comes in!
Our movers in Indianapolis have partnered with Stuffed with Hugs to become the official transportation of the donated toys. Each year, professional movers will pack, load and deliver the toys to various locations in the community.
Keep your eye on the Build-A-Bear Workshop to see when your opportunity to lend a hand will arrive. In the mean time, make like a moving company and find ways to give back to the community.
More Tips for Planning Your Summer Move
04.23.09 (9:22 pm) [edit]How are your preparations going for your move this summer? A few weeks ago, I mentioned a few steps to take to get your game plan going for your move in Dallas. Now that summer is a mere month away, it is time to step up your moving plans and cross a few things off of your to do list. For most long distance moves and even some local moves, you will need a place to stay overnight. Whether its a hotel or the home of friends or family, making your reservations now will ensure availability and prevent hang ups during your move. Alert your gas, electric, water, internet, phone and cable providers about your moving plans. For both service transfers and service terminations, make sure you provide each service company with your new mailing address, the date service should end and the start date of services at your new home. Make sure each provider knows to send your final statement to the new address. I suggest using Connect Utilities to set up services at your new location. This website can help you with your power, phone, cable, internet and other services. Now is a good time to start collecting important documents you may need during your move. Gather closing papers, moving contracts, insurance and legal documents and place them in a portable file carrier. Keep the carrier on hand in case you need anything during the move. I am here to keep your moving plans on a roll, but you can also use this handy moving checklist to guide your efforts. Good luck!
All My Sons Grants the Gift of Time
04.20.09 (9:57 pm) [edit]You should never have to be in a rush about your move to Dallas. Sadly, many of us have had to endure a stressful move that involves rushing from store to store to get moving boxes, packing and cleaning supplies, rushing around to find a new home and of course the mad dash around the house, tossing items into boxes and stuffing clothes into bags. Some people call this “packing!”
The beauty of hiring professional Dallas movers from All My Sons Moving & Storage has many advantages. Plus, you get great bonus gifts! My coworkers and I offer many incentives like a move set on your schedule and free wardrobe boxes to boot. But the greatest gift that our Dallas movers give our customers is time. We have great tools like moving checklists and professional packing guides to get you started on the right foot. You can plan your move days, weeks or months in advance. All My Sons also provides high quality moving boxes for our customers, and of course a team of professional Dallas movers. We even handle last-minute moves!
You can have our team of moving experts—which includes professional staff members, packers, moving consultants, planners and more—plan your move in a matter of days! So stop rushing around trying to get things done. A move to Dallas is a big deal, and the extra help from the well-trained movers of All My Sons are just what you need.
Mental Moving
04.16.09 (7:37 pm) [edit]In case you were not aware, the moving business is a tough industry. Since I work in the office, I am often told I have absolutely not cause to complain about ANYTHING. If I say I am cold, I am reminded of the movers working in the rain at that moment. If I say I am tired, I hear about how easy I have it sitting in a nice office instead of lifting, walking and moving all day. I know, but I was still very tired today! Moving or not, I can be mentally exhausted, which of course translates to physical exhaustion. But in truth, our Dallas movers at All My Sons work very hard to make sure our customers have a great move and are happy. In fact, our whole team has a hand in the success of every single move we make. I think I will celebrate today's victories with a little nap…
Storage Without the Pain
04.15.09 (9:17 pm) [edit]If you have ever tried self storage, you know what a pain it can be. I once had a unit at a popular self storage location. The unit was climate controlled, which meant I had to carry my boxes and furniture through two doors, down a narrow corridor and into a unit with a small opening. It was like moving into a very cramped apartment building. Then, if you want to access your belongings again, it is just as inconvenient. Organizing a large vehicle, gathering a few helping hands, making sure to arrive during open, slow hours…. What a pain!
It is a completely different story when you use full service storage. For a price that rivals self storage, local movers will pick up your belongings, arrange them neatly in their massive, climate controlled and secure storage facility, and deliver your items at your request and convenience. You basically have to point at what to pick up, and then point to where you want it delivered. Any more effort on your part, and it would not be full service storage, would it?
Last Minute Tips for Your Move This Weekend
04.09.09 (9:57 pm) [edit]I am so ready for the weekend. If you have Friday off, I hope you enjoy a relaxing day with your family! If not, I hope your day at work goes quickly so you can then enjoy a relaxing day with your family. If by chance you have to use your three day weekend to move, you know where I am! If you are moving with All My Sons, you are probably prepared for your weekend. If not, feel free to ask for any last minute moving tips! A few of my favorite tips are also landlord pleasers (if you rent).
If you are leaving appliances behind, remember to clean them!
Keep all important documents together in a place where you can easily access them.
Pack a bag with your essential toiletries, clothes, snacks, phone chargers, etc. Keep this bag with you during your move.
Make sure every box is clearly labeled or even color coded for easy unpacking.
Check all closets, cabinets and behind all doors for items you may have missed.
Remember, you can always call my co workers and me at the All My Sons office for additional guidance during your move. Have a great weekend!

Feel Right at Home After Your Local Move
04.04.09 (3:38 pm) [edit]Even if you are making a small local move only a few miles away, moving is all about change. Part of my job at All My Sons Moving and Storage is to make sure your family feels comfortable in your surroundings as soon as possible after your move to Dallas. Whether your move takes you to a new street, a new city or a new state, our Dallas movers are ready with suggestions to get you acclimated in a jiffy.
Get to Know Your Neighborhood Strategy 1
Research research research! If your new home is within an hours drive, go there and familiarize yourself with the neighborhood. Take a walk around the block, locate the nearest park, and visit the local schools if you have children. Explore the local retail amenities nearby. Test drive your new route to work. The sooner you learn about your neighborhood, the more comfortable you will feel after your local move. For long distance moves, pull up your new address on Google. The mapping program allows you to see a street view of most areas. You can note nearby parks and commercial space, neighborhood layout and much more!
Get to Know Your Neighborhood Strategy 2
Visit your new citys website and request a copy of their local publication. Most cities offer a free monthly newsletter, magazine or weekly paper about the people and places in the neighborhood. If you are making a local move, attend a town hall meeting or other community function.
Get to Know Your Neighborhood Strategy 3
Most areas have organizations dedicated to all kinds of hobbies and interests. Take your dog to the community dog park to meet other pet friendly neighbors. Locate a local playground to befriend other parents and new friends for your children. Research volunteer opportunities in the community to lend a helping hand and meet great people.
Congratulations on your new neighborhood! The Dallas movers of All My Sons Moving and Storage hope you feel right at home soon after your local or long distance move to Dallas.
Move Easily in All Kinds of Weather
03.31.09 (9:05 pm) [edit]Even the most carefully planned move to Dallas can unravel thanks to temperamental Mother Nature. And although Texas is a very sunny state, we have our fair share of thunderstorms, windy days, hail and the occasional freeze. While many of us anticipate an ideal moving day full of sunshine, sometimes the weather does not cooperate. While you may run the risk of having friends back out of lending a hand due to a few dark clouds, All My Sons Moving and Storage is here for you in all kinds of weather.
You should always plan your move to Dallas when it is convenient for you. If that means in the dead of winter, so be it! My Dallas movers are ready to take on any kind of weather. We operate from sun up to beyond sun down and during most holidays and three day weekends to make sure our customers get great service on their schedule. And much like Boy Scouts, we are always prepared! From loading our trucks with tarps and waterproof packing materials to taking extra precautions to protect your belongings, doors and walls during your move to Dallas, All My Sons makes moving in bad weather a breeze.
Moving Gone Horribly, Horribly Wrong
03.26.09 (10:13 pm) [edit]Leave it to me to point out the obvious, but my significant other demonstrated the best, albeit most obvious reason why hiring our Dallas movers is better than thinking you can handle your local move or long distance move with ease. A hard headed friend of ours opted for a self-move, which included collecting a ratty moving truck, some questionable moving boxes and a few gullible friends for support. After watching years of football, it has come to my attention that most men are innately competitive. So leave it to this group of mishaps to cause severe damage to themselves and the household of goods they were responsible for! What actually happened during this ill fated move was chaotic. The so called movers bumped and scratched furniture and door frames, trying to life the heaviest things without help from their buddies. One guy even pulled a muscle when he tried to lift something himself instead of waiting for an extra pair of hands! My co workers and I at All My Sons Moving & Storage are not belittling your friends at all. But let them be who they are, your friends and not your movers! In addition to severe damage to your stuff, you could unknowingly endanger your favorite people with the threat of severe bodily harm. Just ask the guy on my couch with a sprained groin…
Moving, Past Present and Future
03.06.09 (5:20 pm) [edit]A Dallas moving company’s history can be very helpful in determining just how qualified its Dallas movers may be. No matter how careful their movers may be, if the office is disorganized, you can expect late arrivals, confusing paperwork, limited communication and unexpected delays. Likewise, if the office is organized but the Dallas movers are poorly trained or inexperienced, you may have to call someone else to move your piano or pool table, experience damages to your belongings or have to utilize your time and energy directing confused movers.
Just as practice makes perfect, it takes time to fully comprehend and correctly implement the many tasks that a professional Dallas moving company like All My Sons Moving & Storage takes on. Many of my coworkers have been with the company since we opened in the DFW area over a decade or more, and the All My Sons business has been around long before then…for over four generations! Many of the techniques our Dallas movers utilize are time tested and NOT the result of guesswork. We know how to pack the most fragile items to drastically reduce the risk of damage. We can offer helpful tips and tools to help you plan your move months, weeks and even days in advance. And of course, we offer moving and storage services that go above and beyond your moving needs. Not a detail is missed when All My Sons plans your move!
It takes decades of experience and years of training to get where All My Sons and our Dallas movers are today. Stick with All My Sons. You will not be disappointed.
Fun in the Sun, Moving and More
03.05.09 (10:12 am) [edit]Its just no fun spending money when the economy is so sensitive right now. Stimulus package (that we cannot afford) or not, I have put my money in lockdown, only drawing out a timid bill or two when I need it the most…like for a juicy burger and a milkshake!
Remember though, a move to Dallas with All My Sons Moving & Storage is not a frivolous purchase. You are not simply spending money. You are investing in the safety and well being of your family and your household of belongings! Think of your Dallas movers as living, walking insurance policies. My coworkers are here to make sure your move goes smoothly, and in much less time than it would take to even plan a move yourself. The peace of mind alone is worth it, and a move with All My Sons includes professional moving boxes, well-trained and experienced Dallas movers, a supportive staff that is easily accessible and much more!
And with all of the extra time and money you can save, take a break and head to Fair Park for the North Texas Irish Festival this weekend. The festival includes an entire weekend of great food, exhilarating performs, vendors with wares of all kinds and much more. So grab some friends and enjoy the warmer weather!

Have a Lucky Move!
02.13.09 (6:44 pm) [edit]Today is Friday the 13th, as if you have not noticed yet! This unlucky day has plagued millions of people throughout generations, although movie studios have found a way to cash in by releasing the latest horror film on these superstitious days. I am not a huge fan of scary movies, so it takes a lot for me to appreciate a good scream.
What does it for me? The classics are all well and good, but Scream broke the mold when it took slasher films to a new level of fun coupled with gore. House of Wax was worth it, if not only to see Paris Hilton get the boot! But The Descent, a tale about a group of adventurous female spelunkers that run into a species of carnivorous, cave-dwelling semi-humans, really takes the cake. From the claustrophobia of the dark, blood-drenched cave to the sheer hideousness of the humanlike monsters within it, this movie throws you into several levels of fear.
But one thing you don’t have to fear is the high quality moving services of All My Sons Moving & Storage. Our Dallas movers are efficient, professional and a great antidote to your bad luck blues. If you fear you’ll break something while packing for your move this weekend or next, the call our Dallas movers to take care of your professional packing needs. Remember, rain or shine and bad luck or good luck, All My Sons Moving & Storage is here for you.
TBlog Sucks, but What Can You Do?
02.10.09 (10:00 pm) [edit]I had written a nice, long Valentines Day blog here about 5 mintues ago, and right as I was about to hit Publish, tblog decided to delete it. So whatever. This is the worst, most user unfriendly blog site I've ever written on, and if I didn't have the blog history here, I'd vow to never write on this crappy site again. So, up yours, tblog.
(This message is the opinion of the writer and in no way reflects the opinions of All My Sons Moving & Storage, its Dallas movers or its helpful, friendly staff)
A Moving Company That's Just Right!
02.07.09 (9:11 pm) [edit]When I was younger, my mother would go from grocery store to grocery store to make sure she took advantage of all of the weekly sales on food, produce and other items. My sister and I dreaded each trip, which seemed to take hours more than it should have while wasting more gas than the money she saved at each sale. Now that I do my own shopping, I have found my favorite grocery store that always has what I need at a great value. I go to one store to get everything I need, and that means I have more free time!
Finding a Dallas moving company that has everything that you need could be a challenge. You don't want to shop around to find a company that specializes in moving pianos, one that does international moves, and another with full service, secure storage. You want all of these services and more in just one Dallas moving company, but without having to break the bank. As a small business with big amenities, All My Sons Moving & Storage provides every moving and storage service you need with the personal attention of a mom and pop business. After all, that's how our local moving company started!
My coworkers and I are proud of how easy we can make your move. Few family owned moving companies can handle local, long distance, commercial and even international moves. Often, a small moving company is limited in the amount of services they provide and personnel they have on hand. Some of these companies will even hire day laborers to fill in the gaps during busy seasons! All My Sons knows practices like that are unprofessional. Our Dallas movers are fully trained to handle whatever comes their way.
In a way, All My Sons is much like the old fairy tale, Goldylocks and the Three Bears. Some Dallas moving companies are too big and impersonal. Some are too small and limited. But All My Sons is just right!
The Heroes of Moving
02.03.09 (11:30 pm) [edit]My favorite TV show, Heroes, just began airing new episodes yesterday. If you have never seen it, the show is full of an interesting and interchanging cast of characters with superpowers. From super strength to healing powers and even the ability to fly, these fictional heroes are my favorite way to enjoy a Monday night.
A major theme of the show is watching the characters struggle over how to use their abilities for good, and how to use them in the real world. It reminds me of coming to work at
All My Sons Moving and Storage with my own cast of real heroes. Everyday, I come into the office and work among people with great abilities. I have seen my staff reach out to their team members, come in on short notice to handle a last minute move or same-day move and stay until the job is done, and done well.
Working together, our Dallas movers at All My Sons can coordinate a move that is as fast as it is accurate, just like Daphne the speedster. Our helpful staff members and moving managers are almost mind readers like the Heroes character, Matt Parkman. They can help you plan and organize a great move by anticipating your needs and making sure all of your moving requests, spoken or unspoken, are covered.
When they work together lifting heavy items and even caring for your piano or pool table, I could almost swear that our Dallas movers have super strength, just like Mohinder.
Maybe the show, Heroes, is closer to reality than we realize! Check out the show every Monday night at 8pm on NBC. And check out All My Sons Moving & Storage for a great move at an extraordinary value.
Change and Growth in the Moving Industry
01.31.09 (3:03 pm) [edit]Times have changed. Long gone are the days of horse-drawn carts and Model T automobiles. Technology has revolutionized our country in a comparatively short amount of time. Sure, many people consider moving and storage a matter of brawn instead of brains. However, Dallas moving companies have no excuse if they are still providing antiquated moving services.
For years, All My Sons Moving & Storage has been ahead of the curve when it comes to advances in the moving and storage industry. After all, there is much more to moving than simply lifting and loading boxes and furniture. Because we have a whopping four generations of moving experience under our belts, we have seen and often pioneered the innovations that have revolutionized the moving industry.
For example, the smooth-riding suspension in each All My Sons moving truck provides a gentle ride for your load of belongings. Intelligent software allows our friendly staff to schedule your move efficiently and keep your moving needs in mind. Cellular phones and dispatch radios keep our Dallas movers and office team connected constantly, as great communication is necessary for successful team work and a successful move to Dallas.
Our professional security system keeps your belongings safe, while air conditioners and heaters keep your belongings in a favorable environment. Even our quality moving boxes and packing supplies are a cut above your average cardboard box. Each day, All My Sons is discovering new, efficient ways to provide a larger range of quality moving and storage services for our Dallas customers. We are used to being ahead of the curve because we set the bar on who customers should expect from full-service, local and long-distance Dallas movers.
It is worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing your move is in the hands of an experienced, professional Dallas moving company. With all this change and growth, keep in mind that our traditional beliefs of valuing each customer we serve and always providing “service with a smile” never change! We have always been proud of our reputation as a neighborhood moving company, and we are committed to preserving the high level of customer care we provide each day.
